A
WORKSHOP FOR PERSONS WITH ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN
ANY KIND OF ORGANIZATION.
There
is some overlap between this workshop and HR Laws and Practices with Shari
Constantino and Kim Babuka, but not a great deal. This workshop focuses
mainly on the core legal responsibilities every organization has for its human
resources. Shari and Kim's session goes into much more detail about
carrying out those practices, in particular those involving time and attendance
(the Fair Labor Standards Act).
Employment Law Audit
A review to determine what state, federal and local labor and employment laws apply to participants’ workplaces. Are there special rules for non-profits? What are the obligations those laws impose and what are appropriate compliance strategies.
Form I-9 Compliance
Most employers understand that a Form I-9 has to be completed at hire but what next? What documents can an employer use to validate identity and authorization to work in the United States? What systems are in place to determine on-going compliance? What do you do when there is an audit?
EEO/ Sexual Harassment Policies
What “equal employment opportunity” policies does an employer have to have? What does “equal employment opportunity” mean? What is a valid sexual harassment policy? How should harassment policies be structured? What type of investigation should an employer conduct? What kind of follow-up and training should an employer provide when an incident is reported?
Employee Handbook How-tos
Your board tells you that the organization should have a employee handbook, what do you do next? This discussion will cover what information an employer is required to provide its employees, in what form as well as how an employer might use a handbook to supervise, inform and train its workforce.
