President’s Corner                                                                                                       September 2012

As we have all noticed the students are back in town, which means it is time for SHRMTC to start the fall programming.  The Board has been busy over the summer working on fine tuning the fall programming and creating the 2013 program calendar.  The Board will also be starting to consider nominations for board positions as the annual meeting will be held in November.  If you are interested in learning more about serving on the board or on a committee, please contact me at President@SHRMTC.org.

Certification Corner

It is not too late to join the Certification Review Team. The PHR/SPHR study group met on August 29th to discuss certification, study materials, testing fees and time frames. So far, four individuals have fully committed to obtaining or upgrading their professional certification during the Winter testing window (December 1, 2012 through January 30, 2013). Our first review session will be "Business Management and Strategy" on Monday, September 17, 2012, at 5:30 PM. The location is the Cornell Office of Human Resources located in the East Hill Office Plaza.

We will meet weekly thereafter, on Monday evenings at a location yet to be firmly determined from 5:30 PM until finished (typically 1.5 to 2 hours), for a total of ten weeks. If you just want to see what these review sessions are like, please join us Monday the 17th at East Hill Plaza. There is no cost and it may motivate you to move forward in the profession.

I (Steve Estes, Certification Chair) would like to thank everyone on the Review Team for their optimism and enthusiasm. With the energy I saw in the room during the information session, I am confident that we will soon have more certification success stories to share. On behalf of the study group, we hope to see you there.
